2 cups sugar
3 Tbs. cocoa
Dash of salt
1 small can of milk
1 Tbs. Kayro syrup
2 Tbs. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix sugar, cocoa, and salt. Add milk and Kayro syrup and cook over medium heat until candy reaches the hard ball stage.
Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
Set pan in cool water and let mixture cool for a few minutes. Beat until thick. Pour into a buttered platter. Cool and slice.
One of Mom's few weaknesses - she'd only let us have one or two pieces whenever she made this.
By the time we got up the next morning, the rest of the platter would have mysteriously "disappeared".
She always made this in a green platter with a scalloped pattern around the edge.
